DVFriends takes First Place at SeaPerch Regionals!

DVFriends Team Dragon Dynamix took home a hard-fought 1st place Overall Performance at the Regional SeaPerch Competition. The team has spent all year designing, building, testing, and piloting to get to this point.

SeaPerch is a STEM Competition sponsored by the US Navy that has high school students design and build an underwater ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and run it through a series of challenges and courses based on a theme. This year's theme, "Environmental Monitoring: Coral Restoration," featured tasks such as planting coral, assessing habitats, and removing invasive species.

The 2025 DV team took home the following awards from this year's competition:

1st place - Overall Performance
2nd place - Pool Performance
3rd place - Presentation

This victory gives our team the chance to compete in the International Competition in just a few weeks.

Teams from the school have been competing since 2013 and have won awards for their written and in-person presentations in several of the competitions. DV SeaPerch Dragon Dynamix Engineers won the overall competition three times in 2016, 2019, and 2020. DVFriends has also had two teams compete in the International competition in 2021 and 2022.

Seaperch started as an after-school club in 2013, and due to the team's successes, quickly became a year-long science and engineering elective in the upper school.

DV students excel in hands-on learning, and STEM challenges are a great way to stimulate students' creativity, innovation, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. DVFriends provides these experiences across divisions in science, math, art, and, for our lower and middle school students, through projects in our Makerspace.
