Meredith Shinners

Meredith returns to DVFriends this year as Middle School Dean of Students. She first joined the school in 2012, teaching Middle School Language Arts and English before continuing her career at The Lab School of Washington, DC, and later The Siena School in Northern Virginia, where she served as a teacher, advisor, Dean of Students, Instructional Coach, Humanities Department Chair, and Director of the Summer Academic Program. Meredith holds a B.S. in Secondary Education from Penn State and has completed CALP (Certified Academic Language Practitioner) certification through ALTA (The Academic Language Therapy Association ) and DV’s own training program. She has also trained in multisensory math, restorative practices with International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP), Sarah Ward’s executive function methods, and The Writing Revolution. In addition, she has presented at the AMLE (Association for Middle Level Education) national conference in both 2023 and 2024 on vocabulary instruction. Meredith loves to read and talk about books with friends, colleagues, and students.
