Matt Benjamin

After teaching Social Studies for the last six years at DV Friends, Matt now teaches the Culinary Arts to Middle and Upper School students. Drawing on extensive restaurant experience prior to becoming a teacher, Matt is excited to take on this new challenge and combine his love of history and his love of cooking. He graduated from James Madison University in 2004 with a B.A. in Political Science and from SUNY Cortland in 2011 with a B.A. in History. Matt has previously taught Government & Economics, and various levels of both American and World History as well as Debate. Matt has taught at both the high school and middle school levels. He has reinvented various curricula for the schools in Philadelphia where he worked prior to DV Friends and trained and mentored teachers for Teach for America while working at Mastery Charter Schools.
