ABLE Adventures in Joshua Tree

ABLE students recently returned from an incredible adventure in Joshua Tree National Park, where they pushed themselves both physically and mentally through a variety of outdoor challenges.

The group completed a six-mile hike with a 5,000-foot elevation gain through Black Rock Canyon to Warren Peak. Along the way, they explored iconic sites such as Split Rock, Barker Dam, and Arch Rock, scrambling over the terrain, spotting lizards, and even discovering Native American petroglyphs.

Students also experienced horseback riding through the Joshua trees in Yucca Valley and spent an evening stargazing under a clear desert sky, using telescopes to observe celestial bodies.

One of the most memorable moments of the trip was rappelling down the rock face at Cap Rock. While it was the most intimidating challenge, students rose to the occasion and supported one another every step of the way. They also spent time rock climbing in the “Hall of Horrors,” working together to navigate each climb and build confidence on the rocks.

Throughout the trip, students shared responsibilities as cooks, cleaners, and navigators, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and leadership. By the end of the experience, they left Joshua Tree with a strong sense of accomplishment and memories that will last a lifetime.
