Delaware Valley Friends School seeks outstanding candidates for the opening of Maintenance Specialist, to begin immediately. This is a 12-month position reporting to the Director of Facilities. Under general supervision, the Maintenance Specialist performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair tasks, which may include painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, HVAC, roofing, and related work. Ideal candidates will be energized by working in a mission-based organization, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and have a strong focus on customer service. ● Builds and installs cabinets, partitions, whiteboards, and shelves; repairs furniture, fencing and equipment; installs floor coverings, acoustical ceilings and window glass; repairs roofs, floors, doors, locks, and related items.

● Performs electrical repairs such as replacing switches, wiring, light fixtures and ballasts; repairs faucets, plumbing, boiler room equipment, pumps, commercial HVAC systems.

● Assists school faculty and staff as needed with the movement of boxes, furniture and other items and with other physical tasks.

● Supplements the school’s contracted snow and ice removal, landscaping, and janitorial services as needed to help ensure a safe and clean campus and building, including maintaining ice-, snow- and debris-free parking and walking areas and interior spaces.

● Paints building interiors and exteriors.

● Estimates materials, labor and time needed for projects.

● Operates autos and vans to transport materials,
furniture and equipment.

● Assists in the preparation of facility and grounds spaces for school events and provides support at events as needed.

● Manages building systems such as HVAC, lighting and security in the absence of the Director of Facilities.

● Attends required events as referenced in the Faculty & Staff Handbook.

● Engages in ongoing training relevant to the position.

● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Chief Financial Officer.

● Supports the School and its mission, maintaining a high degree of professionalism at all times.

●Two years of facilities maintenance and operations experience with the ability to work from plans and specifications, prepare estimates of time, materials and labor, and work with limited supervision.

● Specific skills as a plumber, electrician, carpenter or related trade are highly desirable.

● High school diploma preferred.

● Strong customer service orientation toward internal and external users of the school’s facilities and grounds.

● Able to meet the following physical requirements: Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds, less frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, walk and run.

● Familiarity with and appreciation for Quaker principles.
